Open role, Inner Data

Modelling & MMM
The prediction layer, not the reporting layer. Forecasting, propensity and lifetime value, incrementality and marketing mix modelling, built to reach production.
Forecast, cluster, score, and prove it caused something
Inner Data is a collaborative area, with many people sharing their methodologies and knowledge, so you should be ready to share your ideas and solutions with your team.
This seat is about what will happen and what caused it, which is a different discipline from measuring what did happen. Demand and revenue forecasting, customer clustering and cohorts, propensity, churn and lifetime value, recommendation and next best action, and the causal side: uplift models, incrementality, and marketing mix modelling when attribution has run out of road.
We care more about a model that changes a decision than about one that scores well. A forecast nobody plans against and an MMM that never reaches a media plan are both failures, whatever the error metric says. Expect to be judged on revenue, retention and efficiency, and to explain uncertainty honestly to people who would prefer a single number. Like everyone here, you will be judged on the marginal value you add to the company and to the projects you touch.
What you will actually do
- FramingTurn a business question into a modelling problem, including the harder step of saying when modelling is not the answer.
- Data PreparationPrepare and engineer the data the model needs, and understand where it came from well enough to know what it cannot support.
- Predictive ModellingBuild forecasting, segmentation, propensity, churn, lifetime value and recommendation models, on real client data.
- Causal WorkWork on incrementality and uplift: not who will buy, but who buys because we acted. Design geo or holdout experiments where they are the cleanest answer.
- Marketing Mix ModellingContribute to mix modelling under our Wise Mix framework, with Meridian, Robyn or PyMC-Marketing, favouring methods that report uncertainty over methods that report confidence.
- ValidationValidate properly: holdouts, backtesting, and a clear account of what the model is allowed to claim.
- ProductionGet models out of notebooks, with the data team, and keep them monitored once they are running.
- ActivationWire model output into something that acts on it: a media plan, a bidding strategy, a CRM journey.
- CommunicationExplain a model, its assumptions and its uncertainty to a client who is not technical and has a decision to make.
- Team ContributionShare methodology and improve the practice collectively, which is how Inner Data works.
Technical & platform skills
- Experience
- 2 to 4 years in data science or applied statistics, with models you built yourself and can explain end to end.
- Python
- Strong Python for data work: pandas, scikit-learn, and the ecosystem around them.
- Statistics
- Genuine statistical foundations, including uncertainty, validation and the difference between correlation and a causal claim.
- SQL
- SQL good enough to get and shape your own data rather than waiting for someone to hand it over.
- Modelling range
- Practical experience across at least a few of forecasting, classification, clustering and regression, and the judgement to pick between them.
- Business reasoning
- Ability to connect a model to the decision it is supposed to change.
- AI literacy
- Literacy in Tech and AI subjects, and sophisticated use of AI platforms in the modelling workflow, both with efficiency and security, including the judgement to know when a generative model is the right tool and when a plain statistical one is better and cheaper.
- Languages
- Fluent Portuguese and solid English.
Behavioral skills
- Kindness
- At Wise Pirates we promote and admire kindness, independently of rhythm, intensity and efficiency.
- Curiosity
- You want to understand why something behaves the way it does, and you keep asking after the first answer.
- Ownership
- Accountability for what you deliver and for what you promise a client.
- Collaborative Spirit
- Proactive in working across multi-disciplinary teams, sharing knowledge rather than holding it.
- Analytical Mindset
- Capable of putting data first and obsessed with insight building, always with client satisfaction and business results in mind.
- AI Readiness
- Interest and fluency in using AI as a partner to deliver efficient value, respecting security and privacy regulations.
- Results-Oriented Zeal
- An unwavering commitment to the client’s bottom line, pushing boundaries to chase the best overall performance and business goals.
Not required. Noticed.
- Additional years of experience beyond the range above, for a broader remit and more ownership over how the discipline is run.
- Marketing mix modelling with Google Meridian, Meta Robyn or PyMC-Marketing.
- Bayesian methods, and comfort with priors and credible intervals.
- Causal inference: uplift modelling, geo experiments, synthetic control, difference in differences.
- Time series specifically, with seasonality, promotions and price as drivers.
- Customer lifetime value or churn modelling in a commercial setting.
- Recommendation or next best action systems.
- BigQuery and the Google Cloud data stack, or Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, formerly Vertex AI.
- MLOps: deployment, monitoring and retraining of models in production.
- Generative AI applied to proprietary data, including retrieval over a client’s own content.
- Experience in retail, e-commerce, telco, banking or another data-rich sector.
- Working under formal governance, ISO 27001 or similar.
- Publications, competitions or open-source contributions.
