Open role, Content & Creative
Copy and Content Writer
Writing that has to work: ads that convert, pages that rank and get cited, brand voice that survives a dozen channels. In Portuguese and English, with AI in the loop.
Performance copy, editorial content and brand voice
Wise Pirates seeks restless people, focused on evolving to learn, on producing meaningful impacts, and on working in a highly collaborative way, in a Digital and Tech context. We want to meet people who are digital natives and full of good energy and a good attitude.
This is a writing seat with a performance obligation. Copy here is measured: an ad concept is judged on whether it holds attention, a landing page on whether it converts, an article on whether it earns visibility and gets cited. You will move between short-form performance copy, longer editorial work and the brand voice that has to stay coherent across all of it.
Generative tools changed the economics of writing, and the standard along with them. Producing competent text is no longer scarce. What is scarce is the research behind a piece, judgement about what is worth saying, an ear for a voice that does not sound generated, and the discipline to cut what an AI happily leaves in. You will use these tools daily and be accountable for the result.
What you will actually do
- ResearchResearch a topic properly before writing it: sources, studies, product documentation and, where it helps, a conversation with someone who actually knows. Most of what separates a useful piece from a generic one happens before the first sentence.
- Performance CopyWrite ads, hooks and landing pages for paid social, search and display, in the volume and variation that current delivery models need.
- Editorial ContentProduce longer-form content that earns its place: articles, guides and pages built on a real argument rather than a keyword.
- Brand VoiceDefine and hold a brand’s voice across channels, and adapt it without losing it.
- Search & Answer EnginesDo the keyword and intent work with the SEO and GEO team, and structure content to rank as well as to be quoted.
- Written to Be CitedWrite for extraction, not only for reading. A direct answer in the opening lines before the context expands, a clean heading hierarchy, short paragraphs, lists, comparison tables and question-led sections where they genuinely fit, and a verifiable fact or source often enough that the piece has something worth lifting. These are the shapes AI answers actually take content from, and they happen to make a page better for a human too.
- Bilingual WritingWrite natively in Portuguese and English, and adapt rather than translate when a message crosses markets or cultures.
- Publishing & CalendarWork to a content calendar, publish in the client’s CMS, and keep existing content current rather than only producing new pieces.
- Briefing & CollaborationWork with design, media and strategy from the brief onwards, so copy and image are conceived together.
- AI Orchestration & Human-in-the-LoopProducing good content now requires using AI well, and that is a skill in its own right rather than a convenience. Orchestrate the tools: choose the right one for each step, prompt and feed it properly, chain steps where that helps, and know what each model is weak at. Work within our security and privacy rules, and be deliberate about what client material goes into which tool. Above all, know exactly where you are the human in the loop: which claims you verify yourself, which drafts never ship without your edit, and which decisions are never delegated. You sign the work, so you answer for what the tool invented.
- AI-Assisted ProductionUse generative tools to widen options and speed up iteration, and edit hard enough that the output does not read like the tool produced it.
- Editing & ProofingEdit and proof your own work and that of others, and hold a quality line when volume is under pressure. Grammar, punctuation and consistency are the floor, not the achievement.
- MeasurementRead what your writing did: click-through, engagement, conversion, organic visibility, and whether a client gets mentioned when someone asks an assistant about their category. Test headlines and angles against each other, and let the result change the next piece.
Technical & platform skills
- Experience
- 2 to 4 years writing professionally for digital, in an agency, in-house or as a freelancer with real clients. The seat is open across that range, and we adjust scope to the person rather than the other way around.
- Portfolio
- A portfolio we can read, showing both short-form performance copy and longer editorial work.
- Writing craft
- Exceptional written communication, with grammar, punctuation and spelling you do not need someone else to catch.
- Research ability
- Strong research skills across multiple sources, and the judgement to tell a solid source from a confident one.
- Languages
- Native-level Portuguese and strong English, with a genuine ear in both.
- SEO & GEO foundations
- Solid understanding of SEO: keyword research, search intent and on-page basics. Plus an interest in what makes content quotable by an AI answer, which is a craft question as much as a technical one.
- Digital marketing
- Working understanding of how a campaign is structured, what a funnel is, and what a piece of copy is supposed to do in it.
- CMS & publishing
- Comfort publishing in a CMS, WordPress above all, and basic HTML where a page needs a hand.
- AI orchestration
- Sophisticated, fluent use of generative tools: the right tool per step, prompting and context that actually change the output, awareness of security and privacy limits, and clear judgement about where a human checkpoint is mandatory. Knowing which tasks are not worth handing over is part of the skill.
- Adaptability across formats
- Comfort moving between a six-word hook and a two-thousand-word piece in the same day, across several brands and voices.
Behavioral skills
- Kindness
- At Wise Pirates we promote and admire kindness, independently of rhythm, intensity and efficiency.
- Bravery
- Willing to propose the braver line, and to defend it with a reason rather than a preference.
- Wiseness
- Judgement about what is worth saying, and about what should be cut.
- Communicative
- Clear and direct with teams and clients, in writing and in the room.
- Sociable
- Genuinely collaborative, at ease working closely with design, media and strategy.
- Curiosity
- You want to understand the client’s business, not only their brief. It shows in the writing.
- Receptive to Feedback
- Able to take an edit without taking it personally, and to separate taste from evidence.
- Analytical Mindset
- Capable of putting data first and obsessed with insight building, always with client satisfaction and business results in mind.
- AI Readiness
- Interest and fluency in using AI as a partner to deliver efficient value, respecting security and privacy regulations.
- Ownership of the Output
- Whatever helped produce it, the work is yours once you send it. That applies to facts, sources and tone alike.
- Results-Oriented Zeal
- An unwavering commitment to the client’s bottom line, pushing boundaries to chase the best overall performance and business goals.
Not required. Noticed.
- Additional years of experience beyond the range above, for a broader remit and more ownership over voice and strategy.
- A degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Literature or similar, though the portfolio matters more.
- Scriptwriting and storyboarding for short-form video, where the first three seconds decide everything.
- Experience writing for e-commerce, including product and category pages at volume.
- UX writing, or interface copy.
- Experience building or maintaining a tone-of-voice guide for a brand.
- Hands-on generative engine optimisation work, or curiosity about how brand mentions in AI answers are tracked and moved.
- A third language, and the cultural fluency that makes localisation more than translation.
- Prior agency experience writing for several clients and voices at once.
