Open role, Web, Apps & Experience
UX/UI Designer
Mobile & Product
Design judged by what it changes, not by how it looks in a case study. Mobile-first UX and UI for websites, shops and web apps that have to convert.
Research, interface and design systems, pointed at a result
Wise Pirates seeks restless people, focused on evolving to learn, on producing meaningful impacts, and on working in a highly collaborative way, in a Digital and Tech context. We want to meet people who are digital natives and full of good energy and a good attitude.
This is design with a number attached. Most of what our clients sell happens on a phone, and most of what goes wrong there is not taste: it is a form that asks too much, a checkout that forces an account, a page that takes four seconds to become useful. You will design the thing, and then find out whether it worked.
The work runs from research through to build-ready files, alongside front-end, analytics and CRO people rather than in a separate design phase. Nobody here is asked to produce a beautiful screen that nobody can implement or measure.
What has changed in this discipline is where the designer sits. Experience stopped being a layer on top of a business and became one of the ways a business competes, which means the useful designer is the one who can read behavioural data, hold a conversation about revenue and retention, and connect a design decision to the number it is supposed to move. You do not need to arrive as an analyst. You do need to be at ease with evidence, and with being told the evidence disagrees with you. Like everyone here, you will be judged on the marginal value you add to the company and to the projects you touch.
What you will actually do
- Discovery & ResearchUnderstand the problem before designing for it: user research, usability testing, session and review analysis, and the judgement to tell a real pattern from a loud opinion.
- UX DesignFlows, information architecture and interaction design for websites, e-commerce and web apps, mobile first by default rather than as an adaptation.
- UI DesignInterfaces that are clear, fast and on brand, made to be built rather than admired in a presentation.
- Design SystemsBuild and maintain component libraries and design tokens, so a second designer or a developer can carry the work without inventing their own version of it.
- Conversion DesignWork on the friction that costs money: forms, guest checkout, validation, empty states, error handling, the first screen.
- AccessibilityDesign to WCAG 2.1 AA and to the European Accessibility Act, treating it as part of the brief rather than a late audit.
- Developer HandoffDeliver specs, states and edge cases that a developer does not have to guess at, and stay available while it is built.
- MeasurementSee how a design performed once live, and let that change the next one.
- CollaborationWork with front-end, analytics, CRO and content from the brief onwards, and present your own decisions to clients with the reasoning behind them.
Technical & platform skills
- Experience
- 2 to 4 years designing digital products or commercial websites, in an agency, in-house or freelance with real clients.
- Portfolio
- A portfolio we can go through, showing the reasoning and not only the final screens.
- Design tooling
- Fluency in Figma, including components, variables and prototyping.
- UX craft
- Comfort with flows, wireframes, information architecture and usability testing, and with designing for small screens first.
- Interface craft
- A solid eye for typography, spacing, hierarchy and state, and the discipline to keep a system consistent.
- Web literacy
- Enough understanding of HTML, CSS and how the web actually renders to design things that can be built and that load quickly.
- AI literacy
- Literacy in Tech and AI subjects, and sophisticated use of AI platforms in the design process, both with efficiency and security: research synthesis, variant generation and prototyping, with the judgement to treat the output as a draft rather than an answer.
- Languages
- Fluent Portuguese and solid English.
Behavioral skills
- Kindness
- At Wise Pirates we promote and admire kindness, independently of rhythm, intensity and efficiency.
- Curiosity
- You want to understand why something behaves the way it does, and you keep asking after the first answer.
- Ownership
- Accountability for what you deliver and for what you promise a client.
- Collaborative Spirit
- Proactive in working across multi-disciplinary teams, sharing knowledge rather than holding it.
- Analytical Mindset
- Capable of putting data first and obsessed with insight building, always with client satisfaction and business results in mind.
- AI Readiness
- Interest and fluency in using AI as a partner to deliver efficient value, respecting security and privacy regulations.
- Results-Oriented Zeal
- An unwavering commitment to the client’s bottom line, pushing boundaries to chase the best overall performance and business goals.
Not required. Noticed.
- Additional years of experience beyond the range above, for a broader remit and more ownership over how the discipline is run.
- Experience building or maintaining a design system from scratch.
- E-commerce design at volume: catalogue, product page, checkout.
- Accessibility work against WCAG or the European Accessibility Act, including remediation.
- Running usability tests or moderated research sessions yourself.
- Native mobile app design, iOS and Android conventions.
- Motion and micro-interaction design.
- Front-end ability, even light, or comfort prototyping in code or in tools such as Webflow or Lovable.
- Working with Core Web Vitals and performance budgets as a design constraint.
- Using generative AI for research synthesis, variant generation or prototyping.
- Brand and visual identity work alongside product design.
- Experimentation literacy: how an A/B or multivariate test is designed and read, and why a preference is not a result.
- Adobe Target, or another personalisation and testing platform.
- Comfort connecting experience data to business data, so a design argument can be made in revenue, retention or lifetime value rather than in taste.
- Experience with personalisation or adaptive interfaces, including AI-driven ones.
- Designing for AI features: assistants, generated content, or interfaces that adapt to the person using them.
- Product thinking: exposure to roadmaps, constraints and trade-offs rather than only to briefs.
