Open role, Social & Community

Social Media Expert

Organic social for brands that are judged on it. Strategy, planning, publishing, influencer work and the listening that tells you what is actually being said.

Location: Portugal
Work model: Hybrid
Schedule: Full time
About the role

Organic social strategy, content and community across platforms

We are looking for a Social Media Expert: creative, autonomous, and with a strong spirit of teamwork. You will elaborate social communication strategies for several brands across different platforms, ensuring a presence in social networks coherent with the other communication channels and aligned with the strategic objectives of marketing and business.

The day to day runs from definition to delivery: articulating the plan with the copy and design teams so content gets created, publishing and promoting it, managing influencers, and analysing what happened well enough to propose what changes next. Keeping abreast of trends, best practices and tools is part of the job rather than something you do when there is time.

Two things separate this seat from a publishing calendar. The first is listening: knowing what is being said about a brand, by whom and where, before it becomes a problem or an opportunity. The second is that organic and paid are now read together. You will work alongside the paid social team rather than in parallel with it, because the same creative and the same audience signal feed both.

Key responsibilities

What you will actually do

  • Social StrategyElaborate social communication strategies for several brands and different social media platforms, tied to marketing and business objectives rather than to follower counts.
  • Channel CoherenceEnsure a presence in social networks coherent with the other communication channels and aligned with the strategic objectives of marketing and business.
  • Planning & ArticulationDefine and articulate planning with the copy and design teams so that content is created on time and on brief.
  • Publishing & PromotionPublish and promote content, and manage the day-to-day operation of the channels.
  • Community ManagementHandle the conversation that follows a post: replies, questions, complaints and the moments that need escalation rather than a witty answer.
  • Social ListeningMonitor what is being said about the brand, its competitors and its category, and turn that into briefs, content decisions and early warnings.
  • Influencer ManagementIdentify, brief and manage influencers and creators, and judge them on fit and on results rather than on reach alone.
  • Analysis & ReportingAnalyse data, prepare reports and propose improvement actions, reading organic performance alongside paid rather than in isolation.
  • Trends & ToolingKeep abreast of trends, best practices and tools related to social media management, and bring the ones worth adopting to the team.
What we’re looking for

Technical & platform skills

Experience
2 to 5 years running organic social for brands, ideally more than one at a time and in an agency or client-facing context. The seat is open across that range, and we adjust scope to the person rather than the other way around.
Platforms
Working command of the main platforms and their native tools, and a clear view of what each one is actually good for.
Social listening
Knowledge of social listening: setting up monitoring for a brand, its competitors and its category, and distinguishing a signal from noise in what comes back. Familiarity with a listening tool such as Brand24 is welcome, but the tool matters less than the habit of going to look.
Market & competitive intelligence
Comfort with the platforms that describe a market rather than a conversation, Similarweb among them, to size an audience, read a competitor’s traffic mix or sanity-check a claim before it reaches a client.
Content judgement
Ability to brief copy and design, judge what will work on a given platform, and say when something should not be published.
Data & insight orientation
Used to reading campaign data and analytics rather than waiting for someone to summarise it. Strategic by instinct, comfortable consulting several platforms to answer a question, and oriented towards building an insight out of what you find rather than reporting the numbers.
AI literacy
Literacy in Tech and AI subjects, and practical understanding of how LLMs and agents work: context, tools, memory, and why the same prompt can return different answers. Sophisticated use of AI platforms, both with efficiency and security.
Languages
Fluency in English and Portuguese, with a natural voice in both.
What we’re looking for

Behavioral skills

Creative & Autonomous
Creative, autonomous, and with a strong spirit of teamwork.
Judgement in Public
Sound instinct for tone in a channel where a wrong answer is visible to everyone and permanent.
Responsiveness
Comfortable with a channel that does not wait, without turning speed into carelessness.
Collaborative Spirit
Works closely with copy, design and paid social, where most of the performance is decided.
Kindness
At Wise Pirates we promote and admire kindness, independently of rhythm, intensity and efficiency.
Analytical Mindset
Capable of putting data first and obsessed with insight building, always with client satisfaction and business results in mind.
AI Readiness
Interest and fluency in using AI as a partner to deliver efficient value, respecting security and privacy regulations.
Innovation Lover
Someone seeking continuous growth and desiring to be part of innovative solutions.
Results-Oriented Zeal
An unwavering commitment to the client’s bottom line, pushing boundaries to chase the best overall performance and business goals.
Nice to have

Not required. Noticed.

  • Additional years of experience beyond the range above, for a broader remit and more strategic ownership.
  • Experience managing paid social campaigns alongside organic, and a view on how the two should feed each other.
  • Hands-on experience with a dedicated social listening platform, or with a competitive intelligence suite.
  • Experience running social for a brand through a crisis or a sensitive moment.
  • Short-form video: scripting, shooting or editing well enough to move without waiting for the studio.
  • Experience with creator and affiliate programmes beyond one-off influencer campaigns.
  • Prior agency experience handling several brands and voices at once.
