GA4 is the latest version of Google Analytics and it was initially created to tackle cross-device tracking limitations and gather in a unique platform data from both the web and app universe but also to support emerging industry needs and customer demands such as privacy regulations and updates, advanced insights and data insights and data activation.

Data Models

GA4 is event-based: this is the biggest difference between the two platforms. This model allows GA4 to collect data not only from websites but also from apps.

Integrations

With GA4 and contrary to UA, you can benefit from integration with Big Query and Google Marketing Platform..

Privacy

It works with Consent mode and has IP address hiding and also works with ML capabilities that allow probabilistic models for users who opt-out for analytics tracking.

WHY DO I NEED GA4?

From July 1st 2023 Universal Analytics will start to disappear and GA4 will become the new Google Analytics product available. This means that every Google Analytics user will need to  migrate and get familiar to GA4. In order to not loose data, the migration needs to be done as soon as possible before the Universal Analytics sunset.
